Free Shovels Program
In Jet City, we know the loneliness and desperation that winter and snow can bring to those we care about.
In December 2020, amidst the largest snowfall in decades in Chicago, Jet City launched their Free Shovels program to serve the 55th legislative district. Through our unique ability to organize the young people of Jet City, we provide readily available shoveling services for seniors and the most vulnerable in the areas around O’Hare Airport.
This free program has served dozens and dozens of seniors in the area, with a refusal to turn away anyone who can’t handle the removal of their own snow. We model servant leadership and neighborly love by showing up for those who most need us in our district, time and time again.

Free Gardens Program
In Jet City, we believe that beautification and connection is one of the most powerful tributes of neighborly love we can provide. While many don’t have the energy or ability to maintain their lawncare, we don’t think that should keep them from the raising of spirits and hope that a well-maintained lawn can bring.
That’s why in Spring of 2021, Jet City launched our “Free Gardens” program to provide lawn mowing and weed whacking to elderly, low income, and disabled neighbors.
Neighbors can sign up below to participate in the program or volunteer, with expectations of a biweekly cut on weekends from May - September.
Friends Across Jet City
Free Wellness Check Program
In Jet City, our goal is to model servant leadership and neighborly love. There’s no stronger form of this than the deep connections built through friendship and untethered care for our neighbors.
Jet City is unique in the number of seniors and immigrants who call our area home. Through our organizing efforts, we’ve uncovered that these dimensions often lead to feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and disconnect from the community we share.
The “Friends Across Jet City” Free Wellness Check Program is a once a week call from a friend in your home district aimed at keeping each other positive, connected, and with a sense of allyship from someone close to us.
We pair residents based on interests, background, and location to ensure that all have a genuine friend and neighbor in their corner around the district.
